Gina from Project Energise came to school today.  We had a fun time sprinting and learning to jump over the high jump.  Lets hope we can remember our technique for athletics day!!

Skiing

I peered out my window at the snowy mountain as we approach it.  Sweat cascaded down my face as I climbed out of the bus.  It was like going to the beach on a hot day but worse.  We had thermal clothes underneath normal clothes, a waterproof jacket over the top of a normal jacket, a beanie, sunglasses, scarf and waterproof gloves.  We trudged through the snow waiting for the others to come.  We had snowball fights and climbed little snow hills as we waited.  When we had climbed as far as we could we slid back down and posed for the camera.  By then the others had arrived and we were nearly ready to ski.

Everyone had found themselves a buddy to go down the lift with.  So two by two we all went down the first ski lift.  When we got down there we found ourselves a table to sit at.  After that Miss Baker sent us in the ski shop 10 at a time to get our skis and ski boots.  For some people the ski boots were easy to put on but for the rest it was a bit hard.  The ski boots were really tight and uncomfortable.  They were really hard to walk in because you had to walk on your heel first and then your toe.  But after a while you get used to it.  To put your skis on you had to put your toe in first and then push your heel down to click it into place so your skis would not fall off.   

It took me a long time to learn how to ski because I didn’t know how to stop properly and I kept falling.  I found it really hard to stop at first but then i started to get the hang of it with Miss Baker’s help.  To stop all you needed to do was make a pizza shape.  When i was confident enough I was allowed to ski down to the bottom of Happy Valley.  At the bottom I had to wait in line with my skis and poles.  When I had reached the front of the line I had to wait for the scanner to scan my card.  Then I had to quickly get onto the ski lift so it could take me to the top again.  Then I had to ski down again and again and so on…………………………..

WORMS TALE

Once there had been a happy worm that had appeared out of a cereal box and found a old yuck apple across the road he tried to wriggle over but cars kept driving past so he thought of and idea. Suddenly he went back and bit and pulled some grass and went flying up then dropped down.

The worm saw a car heading towards him so he decided to ran in front of it and fell into a crack in the middle of the road it was like a maze but he jumped out and another car approached on the road again, so he quickly tried to get across the road but……

The worm had got stuck between the crack in the road but it was too late the car had driven over it so his tail had came off and his chopped off bounced out but suddenly another worm appeared out of his tail, there had soon been another car coming towards the worm but the worm just grew another tail so the car had drove over it and his tail came off again and the worms head to the apple and started munching on it while the poor worm wriggled and wriggled and appeared out so he tried to get to the apple but he had no tail so another worm grew out the other of him and the worm was panicking to get away but the other worm had got dragged to the apple.

Beyond the steep hills a Jeep speeds past.The wind pushes the box over and cherios fall out.A worm slides it way out and gazes across the road until his eye catches a apple.He attempts to travel A to B but another Jeep stops him in his path.He suddenly has an idea.The worm pulls back a plant stem and fires himself across the road but fails in the process.He attempts a different approach by running across the road but falls in a trench like crack.He has an idea so he staggers his way up and sprints to the nearest crack and repeats this until his head slides through a skinny end.A Ford drives past and slices him in half to find his other half heading for the apple.He tries to grow another tail but grows a worm.

One cold winter morning as the snow covers the dirt with its shivery blanket, a man decides to have a morning walk following a hidden track. The man strolls further than he expected to find a mysterious rope dangling from the sky. His feet embedded in the snow as he approached it slowly.  He sticks his finger on the rope, he yanks it to find it is night time.

He backed up astonished. He looks around to investigate for anything suspicious. He tugs it again to be brain washed again. He yanks it faster and faster until the rope suddenly stops working. He gives it a great pull and the rope falls into a pile. He walks away feeling the guilt as he acts like nothing happened.

Ariana's Worms Tale

My keywords - desert ,crazy, ditzy, speed dangerous, multiply ,bad luck,angry,miserable,                                  There once lived a worm in the middle of the desert, one day a car drove past and knocked his box over.   Then he saw a delicious apple on the other side.  Soon danger was upon him, another car drove past, then he  flew into a crack on the road, soon he was trapped with no way of escaping.   He then became very miserable. Once again danger was ahead as a car shoots across the road at one hundred miles an hour.   More and more times his tail was squashed and broken, more worms had multiplied, was there no end?   What bad luck for a worm, soon he was dragged to the cheerios were he first started his voyage.

once there was a legendary hiker that strolls on the snow as it crunches under his feet. he comes to a stop as he sees an endless red ribbon that's just dangling in front of him. he was astonished that there was a red ribbon just dangling from the sky. he stops and thinks for a moment should i pull it or not.

so he yanks the ribbon and suddenly the lights go off. he was stunned that he found a ribbon that makes the world go black. he pulls it a couple more times thinking he had magical powers then it suddenly stopped working. his face drained.

he was worried that he made the world will be black forever. he performed an almighty pull then suddenly it fell down. guilt filled the hiker so he slyly turned and walked away hoping no one saw him pretending nothing happened.

Butterflies  flutter within as they walk down the corridor … they all suddenly stop then the first giraffe

ran as fast as he could and tucked

his legs in as he jumped off the diving board. Then the next and the next and

so on and so forth, then they line up on

the edge of the pool and take a sip of

water, they walk off then fall like dominos. They all got sick  because the water that they drunk had chlorine in it.

Long, lanky necks enter the abandoned corridor.The giraffes entered Following in each others footsteps then one of the giraffes came up and licked the camera to check that no one was watching them. Each of the giraffes stand in a perfect position to make there way up to a 580 metre high diving board. With one giraffe hanging from the roof and a dozen more lining up at the edge of the doorway all the giraffes stand in the perfect stance to get ready for the jump of their lives. A giraffe stands steady then comes speeding towards the diving board then the giraffe suddenly feels a chill crawl through its spine. Neck to neck they touch as the giraffe leaps into the air  and starts spinning in sync into the water. He crawls his way to the edge, and one by one all of the giraffes jump down and line up in the exact same order. One more giraffe starts  hanging like a monkey from off the ceiling then suddenly the giraffes run to the end of the diving board and flip off, two at a time, with no hesitation. The giraffes hear a door open slightly. They realise that the pool was reopening for the day and quickly dash towards the exit.

Diving Giraffes

Tall adventurous giraffes with knobbly legs and long necks stroll 580 meters high for a dive.As they slowly enter the corridors, one of them stares at the security camera and pokes tongues.  With the first giraffe hanging from the ceiling for the next giraffe to do an  inspiring flip.As they trot back up for another turn two giraffes hold their strength against the ceiling for a double flip.They were so impressive by twisting there knobbly legs with them holding on to the adventurous giraffes.

After we had finished our Diving Giraffe story, our challenge was to create a picture of the giraffe using Google Drawing.  I used shapes to create my giraffe.  Guess how many shapes I used?

Diving Giraffes

Long lanky legs gracefully strolling down the corridor.They exit the changing rooms one at a time  moving towards the pool.The giraffes realise that there confidence they once had is now replaced with fluttering butterflies while they walk. They finally approach their destination that took them a good 5 minutes.

The giraffes jump of the diving board that is 580 meters...They gallop all the way to the end of the diving board and a long neck helps flip into the pool and then land softly into the water.

Their long, lanky legs sneakily  climb 580m. As one of the giraffes secretly checks the security cameras making sure that no one is watching them.The giraffes still twist and turn through the corridor to their  destination. Suddenly they stop and a giraffe comes down from the ceiling. As one is air airborne the other one is right behind ready to get spun. The first one makes it into the water with absolutely no splash. Another giraffe comes from the roof and as they both get in position suddenly you see giraffes sprinting to you spin and twist amazingly. They finish and elegantly take a bow.

It was a normal evening and the pool was closed for the night as everybody left and there was no sound to be heard so some giraffes decide to break in.Strolling through the corridor of the pools one giraffe starts to glare into a security camera, checking just in case there cover was blown.The giraffes face to walk 580 feet above the

ground.

Their walk up the spiral stairs ends as a giraffe sprints to the diving board as one of his comrades support him to show off.The giraffe does a 360 spin in the air and perfectly lands on the water.The other giraffes start to show off as well.They were like ammunition being fired out of a machine gun.Another giraffe is lowered to increase the speed of the line.

After the last jump the giraffes line up to scull a refreshing drink of water.Footsteps echo through the pool corridors.The giraffes evade to the nearest exit to keep their identity concealed.

Tall giraffes sneaking silently out of the changing rooms making there way to the corridor.Click clacking feet as they walk up the rail each in a straight line and then comes to a stop.One of them was hanging from the ceiling ready to catch their team mates to make a perfect dive.The first giraffe approaches, sprinting towards the diving board, he jumps and makes a perfect back flip with no splash.Each of them does there tricks one by one.Another giraffe comes down from the ceiling helping his team mates.Two of them both came sprinting to the end making there two perfect flips.  Everyone finishes their turn and all line up at the edge of the pool, taking a bow and having a drink of water.They all hear a noise and quickly run to the exit trying to stay out of sight.

the pool just closed as the giraffes walk silently up the corridor as they come to a stop. 580m away from the surface of the water. a giraffe is waiting steadily on a rope hanging from the ceiling fearless of the height. one of the giraffes run and leap from the diving board. the giraffe on the ceiling stretched his long neck and attached it to the giraffe who leaped. they swang and the giraffe performed a perfect double backflip dive.  one after the other doing perfect dives. when they get back up they see two of their friends hanging from the ceiling, then the giraffes split up into halves, one group up top and one down bottom. they run in sync. when they come to the end they leap from the platform and they did the same move and again they did a perfect dive. all of them had a go then they stood on the side of the pool and had a rest. they bent down and had a drink. they took a big scull and suddenly the door opened, then the giraffes ran out the door like nothing happened. and they lived happily ever after.

               DIVING GIRAFFEs                                            Long and lazy legs begin to enter the corridors,they line up ready to practise their diving skills without a sound.A giraffe slowly hangs down from the ceiling to flip the giraffes to make a perfect dive.The giraffes start one by one, the first giraffe approaches, it sprints and jumps while it crosses its legs and flips landing in the water with a perfect dive.  After everyone had a turn another giraffe came down from the ceiling, then they were able to dive two at a time. They all had a turn and a while after that they stopped and had a drink from the pool, but the giraffes had heard a sound so they all scrambled out.

  

 

A little peek at the senior Kapa Haka practice.

The other day we designed and built paper planes.  We had limited materials (6 pieces of A4 paper, 6 straws, bluetac and 2 paper clips) to use and had to come up with the best possible design to fly.  We then took them out into the playground to see which one would fly the furthest.  Kalos won the competition by designing a plane that flew 14 metres.
